Swedish for immigrants (SFI) is an education for those who do not speak Swedish as their first language. You will learn the basics of reading and writing in Swedish, you will also practice using the language in your everyday life and in future work. All education is free and you can choose to read in daytime, evening or in distance.

SFI, Swedish for immigrants

Our experienced SFI teachers will tutor and give you the guidance you need. You will together set up an individual study plan that suits your needs and qualifications. You will learn to read, write, speak and understand the Swedish language – when it suits you best!


You will also get

Tools for your job search, such as CV and personal letter.

Study in close contact with both teachers and other students.

The education are varied with lectures, digital studies and tutorials.

Combine SFI with basic education, upper secondary adult education, employment or other occupation.

Study Paths

Course 1 (SFI courses A and B)

For those who have short or no education from their home country.

Course 2 (SFI courses B and C)

For those with primary and lower secondary education from their home country and also those with a short elementary education with no study experience.

Course 3 (SFI courses C and D)

For those who are studying, who have a secondary education or higher education from their home country.

How to register

To study SFI, you must do a survey at the Adult Education Center (VUC).

You can sign up for a survey with a digital-form.

You can also visit VUC at address Ingenjör Bååths gata 17, 722 12 Västerås, monday and wednesday at 10-12.

New courses starts once a month except in July. Our courses is ongoing throughout the year.
